Best known for the vacuum cleaner that bears his name, Jim Kirby was an inventor for most of his adult life. His goal in life was to reduce or eliminate drudgery wherever it existed. Over 200 patents and a host of products used today are a tribute to his success.
In 1914, as Jim Kirby was refining his version of the vacuum cleaner, another entrepreneur was heeding his father’s advice. George H. Scott’s father encouraged him to go into business for himself. A year later, he joined Carl S. Fetzer and formed The Scott and Fetzer Machine Company, producing automotive parts. The precision of their tools and dies prompted Jim Kirby to turn to Scott and Fetzer to produce his vacuum cleaner system, which they decided to market to consumers through in-home demonstrations. They believed that consumers deserved the opportunity to see and try the system before they made a purchase. They also believed in the power of giving salespeople the opportunity to be in business for themselves. This philosophy formed the basis for what has become one of the leading direct sales opportunities in the world.
Today, the Kirby home care system converts into twelve complete units with a multitude of uses – all powered by the same power plant. Made of die cast aluminum, not plastic, it easily converts to a Deep-Cleaning Upright, a Multi-Surface Shampoo System, Canister Vacuum, Floor Buffer and more. It’s not just a vacuum; it is a complete home care system! There is no need to invest in multiple appliances – with the Kirby home care system, you get them all!
For generation after generation, The Kirby Company has risen to the dust challenge and exceeded our customers’ expectations with each of the Kirby vacuum models we’ve built. We refuse to rest on our laurels, and we continue to utilize technological innovations that enhance the quality, reliability and performance of each successive Kirby system.
